A big thank you to our show sponsors

Burns Dog Food - Sponsors

“I would like to take the opportunity to thank the officers and committee of the Northern Japanese Chin Club for inviting me to come and judge their 2nd Championship Show on Saturday the 5th of April 2025. A big thanks also to you, the exhibitors, who trusted me with their dogs and who allowed me to go over their dogs.A bittersweet day for me personally. Living in The Netherlands it is no longer allowed to breed Japanese Chin. Having bred them for over 30 years and living with the average of 12 Chins in our house we are now down to just two. Our 14 year old ‘Mispoes’ and ‘Hannah’ who is seven.

For me, your championship show was a fantastic day. So many Chins, it filled me with joy and it filled me with sadness. I thank you all for the wonderful sportive atmosphere, the many laughs and even the odd embracement. A day to remember.”

With his respectable age of 12 years this boy is still very balanced. Nice square body shape. A coat of excellent silky texture and well taken care off. Nice, pleasing masculine head. Very good width and rise of skull.Large, well placed eyes, showing correct amount of white in the inner corner, very pleasing expression. Correct open face, would like to see a tad softer finishing of face (slightly pronounded underjaw/lip but I guess age might be playing up here too). Well set ears, lovely arched neck, flowing in a well laid shoulder. Well ribbed, good tail set. Correct bone with elegant hare feet. Still a lovely mover.

Masculine head that I would like to see with more rise of skull. Good width in head, with well spaced eyes. I would like a more open face. Good depth in muzzle. Slightly higher set ears. Would like better lie back of shoulder for more reach of neck. Well ribbed body. Seems heavier boned but this is through the tickness of his coat. Sufficient mover.

Class 4: Minor Puppy Dog (4 entries, 1 absent)
1st: Miss Westwick, Kassui Meyhem
Sevenmonthsoldsable and white boy. His colour red is of excellent depth and already well cleared. Being able to trace his descent in the catalogue, his quality colour does not surprise me. The Russian Hin Satori bloodline carries some of the best red genes in Europe. An already very balanced boy who needs to fill out in body a little more. Pleasing head, excellent top of head. Well placed, large dark eye that could show a little more white in its inside corner. Good nose placement with large open nostrils. Good width of muzzle. Nice arched neck, good spring of rib. Excellent tail set and carriage. Beautiful angulation that gives him full control in movement. Super outgoing character.

Good spring of rib.Excellent tail set and carriage. Elegant bone. Free mover.

Coat of soft, silky texyture. Correct bone. Needs to fasten in his movement.

Class 5: Puppy Dog (1 entry)
1st: McFarlaine, Losing Nuno Noriyuki for Jesandakai Raf (Imp Pol)
14 monthsold boy. Rather coarse in disposition, lacking harmony of line and overall quality. Sufficient masculine head.Round eyes correctly showing a little white in the inside corners. Strong upturned underjaw. Needs more spring of rib. Correct tailset but the dog needs to become more confident to show his tailc arriage correct. Would like to see more angulation in front and rear. Nice hare feet. Correct coat texture. Rather uneven on the move.

Class 7: Yearling Dog (2 entries)
1st: Mrs Oatridge & Mr Grogan, Dalehouse Royal Sceptre
B/W. A 1.5 yearold dog who took me by surprise. He might be ‘up to size’ but is oozing quality and I would love to be able to follow his achievements in the showring and fatherhood. He shows such a happy disposition and never set a foot wrong when going around the ring. This is a dog who shows himself. Quality head, excellent top of head, nice dark eye that shows white in the inside corner. Correct nose placement. Goodwidth and depth in muzzle. Nice soft finishing of muzzle. Nice crest and good reach of neck, giving him that excellent carriage of head. Good spring of rib, muscled loins. Correct tail set and carriage. Excellent square body. Quality coat with silky texture and superb length for age. Excellent angulation in front and rear. Compact hare feet. Free mover with excellent ground cover. On theday, for the competition for Best Dog and the Reserve Best Dog I had to think hard and long … as I felt that there were a couple of dogs that I seriously considered for this award. This dog was one of them, only his size worked against him today. I am sure he has a great future ahead of him.

2nd: Ms Thomas, Javalcy Socerers Aprentice
Another lovely headed dog. Almost two years, square in body but needs more substance, width and depth in body. Today also a bit out of coat. Gorgeous head of good width, superb rise of forehead, lovely ear set and carriage. Round, dark eyes with the correct look of astonishment.Good width and depth of muzzle, soft and well cushioned. Excellent nose placement with open nostrils. I would like a bit more angulation in front and rear. Needs more spring of rib and depth of brisket. Said earlier, lacks coat today. I would like to see better gait settlement, he needs to develop more confidence in show performance to be able to do so.

He caughtmyeyethe moment he stept intothe ring. So full of himself, sooutgoing and so demanding attention. He wasn’t disappointing when placed on the table. B&W. 2,5 year, verya ppealing quality dog. When he entered the ring you had to look at him.Very nice head, good width of skull and rise of forehead. Slightly higher ear set. Well spaced and placed eye. Dark, round, lusterous and showing the correct amount of white in the inner corner.Very good nose placement. Excellent muzzle. Soft, well cushioned. In Japan they like to compare the muzzle with mount Fuji and the cushioning of the muzzle as theslopes of the mountain, creating the possibility for the eyes to be tucked away. And this comparison is justwhatyou see when looking into his beautiful face.
Lovely arched neck, smoothly passing in a well laid shoulder. I would like to see more spring of rib and depth in bodyto complete the perfect picture. Excellent tail set and carriage. Silky coat with excellent feathering. Evenly angulated with lovely low hock. Giving him elegance in appereance and swift movement. Breed typical disarming charmer. A very worthy Reserve CC winner.

It felt like struck by lightning when this gorgeous girl entered the ring. I recognised her immediately and realised she was my BOB six years ago.B/W. With her nine years she still gives me goosebumps. Such correct size and shape. A head to die for. In my critic for my Dog CC winner I wrote: “a conglomerate of circles” and this is so very true for this girl too. Every bit in her head blends, it is soft it is harmoneous. Very good reach of neck, well laid shoulder. Well ribbed, excellent depth. Evenly angulated, giving her – with her nine years – still the possibility to move swift, elegant and effortless. So pleased to give her the Reserve CC, Best Veteran and eventually Reserve Best in Show.

Class 17: Puppy Bitch (7 entries)
1st: Mr Gullon, Adreeam Alice
R/W. (I knowthat, for a lot of ladies, it is customary to have matching shoes and handbags with their outfits but I never realised that we men can match the colour our dog with the colour of ourbeard. Mr Gullon might have started a trend here.) Lovely clear red and white lady of oneyear. She has such balanced, square body. Very feminine head with great rise of forehead. Well set, large eyes with correct amount of white showing in the inner corner. Well placed nose with open nostrils. Nice broad muzzle with correct depth and cushioning. Well arched neck, well layed shoulder passing into  a very good body frame. Excellent spring of rib and brisket depth. Super front with perfect adjacent elbows. Good tail set and carriage. Soft coat with colour patches in a lovely rich ginger shade. Elegant bone and feet. Moves freely with excellent covering of ground. Delightful temperment. Well deserved Best Puppy in Breed. I am sure she has a great future ahead of her.

2nd: Mr Farmer, Sangria Dolly Mixture
B/W. Very elegant 10 monthsold girl. She has a verybeautifulfemininehead with lots of circlesflowingintoeachother and creating a very scrumptious look. Excellent top of head. Good ear set, already good feathering. Dark, lusterious eyes with correct amount of white showing in the inner corner. Very good nose placement. Broad and deep muzzle, giving her a very soft finishing of face. Slightly longer in body. Good spring of rib, nice sturdy front. Correct tail set and carriage. Already abundant coat. Elegant bone, nice hare feet. Evenly angulated but she needs to develop more strength in her rear for better finishing of pace.

3rd: Miss Burns, Adreeam Tootie Frootie
B/W. One year old girl. Very elegant and feminine in appereance. Nice square body. Good top of head. Well set ears, framing her sweet face. Large eye with correct look of astonishment. Never pause for a moment still, so full of herself. Strong contender for top honours.

2nd: Mrs Crane, Cranvarl Eliza Doolittle
R/W. A seventeen months old clear red and white girl. Could be a bit squarer but I just  love her solid body. Her head is not her strongest feature. Good rise of forehead and width in skull but her ear set is a tad high. The turn-up of her muzzle is a bit accentuated. I like to see a more ‘open face’, the result shows as her fur is stained between her nose and skull (which is a pity and spoils her expression). Strong muzzle with an accentuated turn-up of her underjaw. Very good neck and shoulder. Pleasant spring of rib and depth of body which gives her a solid front. Soft, thick silky coat. Bone fitting to body, correct hare feet. The carriage of her tail is something that can be worked on. Good mover.

3rd: Ms Pearce, Rakuchin Leap of Faith
B/W. Fourteen months old bitch. Very elegant in appearance. Feminine head. Well shaped skull. Correctly placed, dark eye that shows enough white in her inner corner. Well placed nose. Excellent tail set with a beautiful rich plume. Silky coat. Moves smoothly but needs to gain more substance in order to get a better balance in her movement.

2nd: Mr Farmer, Sangria Moon Dance
B/W. Three year old girl, in appearance so typical for this famous Chin kennel. Such a shame that she had left her coat on a hanger this morning. Beautiful size and outline. Cobby in body. Very feminine head bit correct top of head and rise of foreface. Correct ear set. Dark eye that showed just enough white in the inner corner. Good nose placement with open nostrils. Very good width of muzzle, well cushioned. Arched neck, passing into a well laid shoulder. Excellent spring of rib and depth in body. Excellent tail set and carriage. Elegant bone and hare feet. Well angulated in front and read, free mover. Would love to see her in full coat as I think she will be hard to pass then.
